GET IT NOWMy 3-Ingredient Pineapple Smoothie Tastes Like a Tropical Vacation

I had a pineapple smoothie like this on vacation last year, and couldn’t stop thinking about it ever since. It reminded me of the sugary (non-alcoholic) pina coladas I used to get on trips as a kid, except this place made it with natural ingredients — something I always seek out when traveling. And that made it 100X better. Here’s why this pineapple smoothie recipe tastes like vacation in a glass:
- Creamy, refreshing, and naturally sweet – Pineapple is the main bright, tropical flavor here, while a hint of coconut gives it bonus tropical vibes. If you like my banana smoothie, this one is a lot like that, but with pineapple flavor.
- Naturally sweetened – You don’t need any added sugar here. The banana and pineapple add plenty of natural sweetness, although you’re certainly welcome to drizzle in a bit of my sugar-free honey if you like it sweeter.
- Just 3 ingredients – And it comes together in about 5 minutes. I usually cut pineapple in advance, and then I can throw this together fast on busy mornings.
If you’re a fan of tropical flavors and want a change from your usual smoothies, this pineapple banana smoothie is the one. Grab your blender and make it with me!

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here I explain the best ingredients for my pineapple smoothie recipe, what each one does, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card.
- Pineapple – I used half of a fresh pineapple for this smoothie, which means you’ll have the other half ready for snacking… or tossing into my pineapple salsa or fruit salad. For a shortcut, you can swap in 3 cups of frozen pineapple. Canned pineapple works too, but doesn’t taste nearly as good as fresh.
- Banana – Adds natural sweetness, plus it helps make the smoothie extra thick and creamy. If you want a lower sugar swap, you can use an avocado (yes, really!) and add powdered Besti to your taste to sweeten.
- Full-Fat Coconut Milk – It makes the smoothie creamy, adds necessary liquid for blending, and makes this tropical smoothie taste like a pina colada! Plus, it’s dairy-free. You can swap in dairy milk or almond milk, but they don’t taste as rich.

Serving size: 1 cup
- Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the right texture, adjust the sweetness, and make blending super easy.
- Storage: Like most smoothies, this one is best fresh, but you can keep leftovers in a jar in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. Give it a good shake before drinking since it may separate a bit.
- Meal prep: Instead of making the whole smoothie ahead, I like to dice and freeze the pineapple chunks and banana in advance.
- Freeze: You can also pour the smoothie into a freezer bag or ice cube tray and freeze for up to 3 months. I partially thaw it and then blend, to keep that icy, creamy texture.
