Free Printable: Low Carb & Keto Food List
Get It NowI’m still on my Indian food kick! Obviously my chicken korma and tandoori chicken recipes needed a side dish, and keto naan bread – or low carb naan as it’s also called – is it! This keto naan with almond flour makes a delicious flatbread that pairs perfectly with Indian food, but also would be a great side to soup or salad. I can’t wait to hear what you all think about this keto naan recipe! It just might become your new favorite low carb bread…
Naan sounds like a complicated recipe but this gluten free naan recipe is pretty fool-proof. If you’ve made fathead dough before (you have, right?) you’ll know how easy it is.
And if you haven’t? Well, make this keto naan bread first, and then go make my fathead pizza crust recipe for your next keto pizza night!
If you prefer a lighter, softer texture, try my keto flatbread recipe here, which is more like pita bread.
How To Make Keto Naan Bread
This keto naan with almond flour recipe is made with a twist on my fathead pizza dough recipe. I love using fathead dough for low carb bread replacements because it has a chewy texture, which makes it taste so similar to the higher carb versions.
First we knead together the fathead dough recipe. Once it comes together, form it into a ball and then we’ll separate into six sections – use a knife to cut like a pie.
Then we roll them into balls and form them into the naan shapes and bake.
PRO TIP: Keto naan bread is supposed to have a rustic shape, so it doesn’t need to be perfectly round, or perfectly shaped. I thought it was easier to just shape with my hands than use a rolling pin, but if you do want to roll it out, make sure to use parchment paper on both sides of the naan so that it doesn’t stick to the rolling pin.
Once it’s done baking and has beautiful golden spots all over, it’s time for the best part! This keto flatbread is topped with an irresistible combination of garlic, butter, and parsley. Don’t even think about skipping this part!
What Is Keto Naan?
Keto naan bread is a low carb flatbread. Traditional naan is an oven-baked flatbread that is found in various Indian and Asian cuisines, but it’s made with flour and definitely isn’t low carb or keto.
I came up with this almond flour flatbread version that’s packed with protein and fiber. Naan often has yogurt in it, so I used keto friendly full-fat Greek yogurt in this one.
How Many Carbs In Keto Naan?
One piece of keto naan has just 6 grams net carbs. Awesome, right? Traditional naan bread has more than 40 grams net carbs.
All the flavor, none of the carbs – that’s what I do here on Wholesome Yum and I’m so glad we can add keto naan with almond flour to our low carb bread list.
Can You Freeze Low Carb Naan?
Yes, you can freeze low carb naan. There are two handy ways to do this.
- Make the dough, form a ball, wrap tightly in plastic, and freeze it. When you want to use it, let it thaw completely and then shape into naan pieces. Bake as usual.
- Pre-bake the keto naan bread. I prefer this option for convenience – no thawing needed! Bake the naan as directed, wrap it, and store in the freezer. When you are ready to enjoy it, simply add the garlic butter and bake for a few more minutes.
What To Serve With Keto Naan With Almond Flour:
Curry and stews are a natural choice for gluten free naan bread (see above!), but it would also make a perfect side for salads and soups. It’s substantial for bread, so you could always just add a little cheese or pesto and call it a meal. And scooping up crack chicken with naan? Droooooool.

Low Carb Keto Naan Bread Recipe
Complete your Indian feast with this easy low carb keto naan bread recipe. Keto naan with almond flour is ready in less than 30 minutes, you'll love it!
Instructions
Tap on the times in the instructions below to start a kitchen timer while you cook.
-
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (191 degrees C). Line an extra large baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Combine the shredded mozzarella and Greek yogurt in a large bowl. Microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until melted and stirrable to be smooth. Stir again at the end until well incorporated. (You can also use a double boiler on the stove if you'd like.)
-
Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, stir together the almond flour, baking powder, and eggs.
-
Working quickly while the cheese is still hot, add the flour mixture to the cheese mixture. Knead with your hands, squeezing through your fingers, until a uniform dough forms.
-
Form the dough into a ball. If it's sticky, chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, just until slightly cool to the touch but not stiff or frigid cold. (This is optional, only if it's too sticky to work with.)
-
Cut the dough ball into 6 sections, like a pie. Take one piece, roll into a ball, then shape with your hands into a flatbread shape, about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick.
-
Bake the naan in the oven for about 8 to 11 minutes, until a few golden brown spots form, but slightly before it looks fully done. If any bubbles form, pop them with a fork to flatten.
-
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together the butter, garlic powder and fresh parsley. Brush over the naan.
-
Return the naan to the oven for about 2 more minutes, until more golden brown.

0I loved this recipe – note I don’t remember tasting naan. I found a WONDERFUL shortcut. You don’t need to melt the cheese! Just throw it all in the food processor – the dough came out, well like dough. You couldn’t see for feel lumps in the dough from the cheese. Used half the recipe to make pizza dough to freeze for another time! THANK YOU!

0The baking powder is gluten free but still contains bad carbs- from corn starch or maize. What do you recommend?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi R, Baking powder needs a starch to keep the rising reaction from taking place immediately. There are several DIY baking powder versions online, but they will still contain some sort of starch.

0I made these last week and they were excellent! I’ve made things with the fathead based before, but I realized with the texture of this bread, it would make a swell pizza crust — so I did exactly that a few days later and it was wonderful! Many of the recipes I’ve seen using it as a pizza dough are more in the flat bread side, but this worked really nicely and gave me a proper large pizza! Definitely a keeper!

0I used this recipe to make cinnamon rolls. Once the dough was ready I rolled it out into a sheet, brushed it with melted butter and topped it with splenda brown sugar, cinnamon and golden raisins. Rolled it up and cut it into slices. They are heavy but they are good! Thank you for this versatile recipe!
Hamsa
0This was absolutely mindblowingly amazing. Didn’t quite taste like a naan, but it’s amazing as bread even to just eat on its own. Thank you for this recipe!!
Robin
0We LOVE these! Thank you!
LB
0Please stop with what is basically a fathead dough for everything. It’s not right for this kind of bread.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi LB, Sorry you’re not happy with this recipe. Many other readers have enjoyed it, and it does make a great low carb version of naan. There are many other recipes on the site, maybe something else will suit your tastes better.
Justine
0Very easy and delicious with the coconut curry recipe
Corie
0Hi! Thank you for sharing the recipe! I’m new in baking and baking with almond flour, Can I just use Plain Greek Yogurt instead of full fat yogurt? Will there be any difference on the result? Thank You very much!
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Corie, Yes, that will still work.
Corie
0I appreciate your response. I’ll be making one now! super excited!
Carly L Marriott
0Unbelievable!! Better than non-keto naan!
Elaine P
0I’ve made the naan breads once and they were lovely but I only used 1 teaspoon of baking powder. I made them again following your recipe closely and noticed it calls for 1 tablespoon of baking powder, so I added this. Unfortunately the naans were inedible. Is there a typo in the recipe and if not where did I go wrong? I’d have given 5 stars if not for today’s disaster.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Elaine, The tablespoon of baking powder gives the nice bubbly brown exterior to the naan bread. Of course, if you prefer the flavor of only using 1 tsp in your naan recipe you are welcome to do that. Enjoy!
Joyce
0I was having trouble with the dough. It was very sticky and gummed up my hands. I had to chill it for a while before attempting to roll it out.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Joyce, If the dough is too sticky you can add a small amount of flour until it becomes workable. Letting it chill in the fridge helps too!
Denise Warner
0Not sure if this has been asked but……..Can it be frozen after I bake them?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Denise, Yes, these will freeze well. For best results, be sure to let them cool completely before freezing.

0You know me…I love Indian food and what is good tandoori chicken, dal and saag paneer without naan? I’m sorry but that’s just not right. I never realized how important flat bread was until I started eating keto. I finally found a recipe that looks good, tastes good and has the right texture yet very low carb. Only 9 carbs per serving!! Whoop whoop whoop!! Thank you sooo much
Susan
0I went to my fridge for Greek yogurt, only to find someone had eaten it! I did however have crème fraiche. So I used that. I briefly thought about plain yoghurt, but thought creme fraiche would be better. Brilliant result. Delicious!
Shahdi
0Loved this recipe. I didn’t have but 1/4 cup of almond flour so I mixed 3/4 of coconut with it and baked the same way but just a few minutes longer in convection. So delicious!
J
0I can’t wait to try this. The calorie count is it per piece or for the entire dough recipe? Thank you
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi J, Calorie count is per serving, not for the full recipe. Enjoy!
PatMimiC
0Can I use coconut flour instead of almond flour just for a change?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi PatMimiC, I haven’t tested this and am not sure these would turn out quite as well with just coconut flour. You would have to cut the amount of flour down by a lot so they wouldn’t be too dry. If you decide to try it, I would only use 1/2 cup of coconut flour. It will make less dough overall, so you’ll have a few less naan out of this recipe. Please let us know if you decide to try it!
Pat
0So easy, so good, can freeze, filling!! Goes with everything
Carol Walker
0I made your cauliflower pizza crust and it was great. I put only cheese and pepperoni on it. My question is how many carbs are in it.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Carol, Nutrition facts for the crust are listed in the recipe card. Check out an online recipe calculator to figure out the macros for the full pizza recipe with your chosen toppings.
Adrienne
0I’m looking forward to trying this recipe again. Through no fault of the recipe, I had a total fail. I purchased mozzarella that had way too much moisture so when combined with the almond flour it never made it out of the batter consistency. So, my recommendation is to make sure you’re not getting the high-moisture soft mozzarella! I’m not strictly low carb and I didn’t want to waste all the ingredients, so I ended up adding a good bit of flour to make it a dough consistency and baked it. So while my efforts to make a low-carb naan failed, combined with a saucy Indian butter chicken, it was decent.
So, to summarize, buy the firm mozzarella!
Shyam
0The Naan eventually came out well but it took 4 cups of almond flour with rest all ingredients being as mentioned.
I did grill it for 2 mins finally to get a brownish texture..However some bits of the naan were soft though…
Luz
0Thank you for this delicious recipe . Love it
And so easy to make .
Kathy Keller
0Can you point me in the direction of the low carb naan video? I am not able to find it, although I have tried. My vision is poor, so maybe that is why. Thank you for your help.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Kathy, The video is in the recipe card. It’s located just above the actual recipe.
Marie
0Is it necessary to use the mozzarella cheese?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Marie, Yes, the mozzarella is a major structural part of this recipe.
Rito
0Made this last night and I am completely sold. It was super easy and surprisingly delicious… I entered the recipe into a nutritional calculator if you go with 6 serving then it’s only ~5 net carbs per serving and around 12g of protein. Like I said… SOLD. Thank you!
Ridhima
0Is it possible to do this recipe without the egg
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Ridhima, I have never attempted to make this recipe without eggs so I am not sure it would turn out.
Michelle
0Just made this. Best naan copy I’ve had. I made a slight change, used sour cream in place of the Greek yoghurt (1:1), only because I didn’t have it to hand. It worked out perfect. Thanks for another great recipe!
MistyB
0I LOVED these. My parter doesn’t eat carb free and even he has to pinch one. I made them and froze the leftovers and they were great from the freezer too. Really tasty. Not like a naan bread exactly of course, but a great alternative. Thank you 🙂
Lou
0Did not taste like naan; texture wasn’t even close. Only ate half of one; I’ll try to use it for personal pizza cuz it’s similar to fathead dough) as I don’t want to waste it. Not sure what went wrong. I even pan fried and oven baked; neither one satisfied. But thank you for posting. It was worth a try.
Natasha
0What a fabulous recipe! I made these to accompany a keto butter chicken and it was delicious!
Pauline
0I am finding that almond flour is a bit strong for my palate…..any modifications you might be able to suggest?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Pauline, What kind of almond flour did you use? Blanched fine ground almond flour generally has a neutral flavor.
Q
0Hi, how many calories per naan?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Q, There are 370 calories per naan.
Sonia
0The recipe looks wonderful, and I can’t wait to try it, but could you please rename the recipe. By referring to this food as “naan bread,” you are essentially calling this “bread bread.” It is simply known as naan.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Sonia, I called it that as it makes it easier for people to search for, but feel free to call it whatever you like.
Adrian
0Do you have a nut free version of this recipe? My son has nut allergies and gluten sensitivity. He loves pita and naan with homemade hummus. I would love to try something like this for him.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Adrian, I’m sorry, I do not have a nut free version of this naan.
Sue
0Love the recipe!
Carly
0Hi – can this be made with a non-cow cheese, maybe sheeps milk feta or goat cheese?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Carly, I am not sure how that would turn out. If you decide to try it, look for a cheese that has similar melting characteristics as mozzarella. That should get you a close result. Please share if you find something that works!
DD
0Trader Joe’s sells Almond Mozzarella Style Shreds…. melts and tastes like shredded mozzarella cheese!
Dareth Benhalima
0Can you tell me why you use Mozzarella cheese?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Dareth, The mozzarella provides structure and bread-like texture for these naan flatbreads.

0Oh my goodness, this is heaven. I cook for a living, I have a festival business, I am just starting Keto today. I wanted to try the dough to give me the confidence I would cope with this life-changing move to keto. this will definitely solve the problem of not having chapatti, crackers, pizza etc. I split the dough into 3 and made some crackers, a mini 6inch pizza and will try a naan tomorrow. I used some chive cheese as well in the qty of cheese allowed. very tasty. I used coconut flour and 2 eggs. I am so impressed. its really amazingly helpful to have such tried and tested recipes to fall back on so thanks for all your hard work, the website is totally awesome. looking forward to my order of almond flour to try the naan! Great work. thanks again.
Carolyn
0OMG. OMG. I went to heaven. This naan bread was out of this world. My dough didn’t look anything like yours Maya. Mine was sticky and gooey, no I didn’t put it in the fridge as instructed. These breads will become a daily inclusion if I can get away with it. I have been trying for SOOO long to find a recipe that replicates my local Indian. Not an exact version but a yummier different, keto version.. Thank you xxx
Hateem Hassan
0How much flour is needed for one naan
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Hateem, One naan requires 1/4 cup of almond flour. The recipe is scalable on the website. Please change the servings from 6 to 1 to see the whole recipe scaled down to one serving.
Brenda Eddy
0Looking forward to trying it. Thanks so much
Judi
0Fat head dough usually uses cream cheese and not yogurt. Will this work with cream cheese in place of the yogurt?
I don’t love that the carb count is 6. Anyway to get that down?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Judi, Yes, it will work with cream cheese. I used yogurt because that is what is used in regular naan. It’s a small amount and full-fat, so still relatively low in carbs, but you’re right that it would be lower using cream cheese.
Christine
0This is wonderful! I haven’t found a keto type bread that I really like, but I’m in love with Naan! I used rosemary instead of parsley, and OMG I will have this as my go-to bread! Thank you !
G
0Added nigella seeds and dry fried on low heat instead of baking. Almost as good as the real thing
Barbara
0I cannot get it to open to the actual recipe. I saw the ingredients in the post but it does not give the amounts oven temp to any other directions.
Wholesome Yum A
0Hi Barbara, there are ingredients and instructions in the recipe card at the bottom of the post. If you can’t see that, you may be in reader mode on your browser. Here’s how to disable that.

0Bread was excellent. Used food processor. First time making. I did put dough in fridge for a couple of hours. Rose and fluffed up. I’ll just cook it a little longer next time to get a little more browning. No nutty flavor that I was afraid of. Left over bread ready for the toaster with an egg in the morning.
Shauna
0Made this with your Coconut Chicken Curry recipe. Both were very good! We love Indian food, but not all the carbs not to mention the cost. Thanks so much!
Wholesome Yum A
0Have you tried adding yeast to this recipe to see what it would do?
Wholesome Yum A
0Hi Amanda, I haven’t done that here but I have used yeast with my pretzel recipe!
Bharat
0Can I use almond meal as well? Can I use ground walnuts or flax or chia? I want to substitute almonds with something that is Omega-3 rich.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Bharat, I would not use almond meal, it will be too grainy for this recipe. Flax and chia will be too drying to use in place of the flour. I would stick with blanched, finely milled almond flour.

0Hi there, my partner needs to lose 40 lbs. His legs are swollen and so big that feet are getting discolored a bit. Some of the bread doesn’t taste nice. He loves his bread and pasta.
