Get It NowIf you have an air fryer, you’ve probably used it to make classic air fryer recipes, like air fryer chicken wings and air fryer french fries. But did you know that you can make air fryer hard boiled eggs, too?! Yep, it’s just as easy as preparing stovetop boiled eggs, but with no water and no watching them. I’m so glad that I took on this experiment with my favorite-ever kitchen appliance. It’s a lot less fuss than actual boiling and produces great results!
Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs
- Perfectly cooked to your liking – Make ’em hard boiled, soft boiled, or anything in between. I prefer mine a little jammy, but I made a time chart (below) so that you can make yours the way you like.
- Easy prep – No boiling water, so it’s less fuss than the stove top. They do take a bit longer than my stovetop method, but sometimes the tradeoff is worth it to not have to babysit them!
- Easy to peel – My method makes it almost effortless. Just don’t miss my tips below!
- Versatile – Great for meal prep, snacks, Easter eggs, salads, and more.
How To Hard Boil Eggs In The Air Fryer
This section shows step-by-step photos together with the instructions, to help you visualize the recipe. For full instructions, including amounts and temperatures, see the recipe card below.
- Arrange. After preheating air fryer, place eggs in a single layer in the basket.
- Air fry. Cook to desired doneness. (See time chart below!)
- Chill. Immediately transfer the cooked eggs to an ice water bath in a large bowl, making sure they are completely submerged. (This will prevent overcooking.) Let them sit to make them easier to peel. After that, you can peel and enjoy right away, or store for later.
Time Chart
For large eggs, 15-17 minutes is the ideal cook time to make them hard boiled. Different air fryers and egg sizes may vary cook times slightly.
Use the chart below for other levels of doneness. Choose your preferred time based on how you like your egg yolk:
Air Fryer Cook Time | Result |
---|---|
8 minutes | Very runny soft boiled eggs |
9 minutes | Runny soft boiled eggs |
10 minutes | Very gooey medium boiled eggs |
11 minutes | Gooey medium boiled eggs |
12 minutes | Just set medium boiled eggs |
13 minutes | Medium-hard boiled eggs |
14 minutes | Very creamy hard boiled eggs |
15 minutes | Creamy hard boiled eggs |
16 minutes | Firm hard boiled eggs |
17 minutes | Very firm hard boiled eggs |
Below is a visual showing how the eggs look after 8 minutes, all the way to 17 minutes: I found that 14-15 minutes was the “perfect” doneness for me (not dry, but also fully set), but 17 is probably a more traditional texture for egg salad sandwiches.
Tips For Easy Peeling
Hard boiling eggs in the air fryer makes them quite easy to peel, thanks to the circulation of hot air, but these tips will make it even easier:
- Use older eggs. Eggs that are at least a week old have more air inside, which creates more space between the white and the shell.
- If needed, cook in batches. The average air fryer can fit about 8 eggs, but a full dozen should be able to fit in a large-sized air fryer. If they don’t fit, avoid layering them and cook in batches.
- Soft to medium eggs are harder to peel (the 8-10 minute egg). Because the egg white is still somewhat soft, peeling them can be tricky. Be sure they are fully cooled, so the white is hardened before peeling.
- Plunge in ice water. If you use the above air fryer boiled eggs time chart but skip the cold water step, your eggs will be overcooked. They may also be more difficult to peel.
- Roll the egg on the counter. My favorite tip of all. Roll the egg on the counter gently pressing on it to create cracks all over. Simply peel away a portion of shell and the rest should come off effortlessly.
Storage Instructions
Keep unpeeled hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 7 days. If they are peeled, keep them submerged in water, but change the water daily. Be sure to keep them separate from the raw eggs in the fridge, so you know which is which!
Serving Suggestions & Recipes
There are so many things you can do with air fryer hard boiled eggs, just like regular ones! Here are some of my favorite ways to use them.
- Seasonings – Simply sprinkle with salt and pepper, or use your favorite seasoning mix.
- Deviled Eggs – Prepare my classic deviled eggs recipe with them, or if you want to get a little fancy, make deviled eggs with bacon.
- Creamy Salads – Use air fryer eggs in conventional egg salad, tuna egg salad. or avocado egg salad.
- Leafy Salads – Arrange sliced boiled eggs on top of a spinach bacon salad, chef salad, cobb salad, or even tuck them into 7-layer salad.
My Favorite Air Fryer
I tested a few air fryers before I settled on mine, mainly for its large basket and easy cleaning. You can find it at Amazon or Target.
Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs (Easy Peel!)
Air fryer hard boiled eggs are a fast, hands-off, no water method of cooking eggs that are easy to peel. Time chart included!
Instructions
Tap on the times in the instructions below to start a kitchen timer while you cook.
-
Preheat air fryer to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).
-
Place the eggs in the air fryer basket, in a single layer. (You might fit a dozen eggs into a large basket, but if they don’t all fit, cook in batches).
-
Cook for 8-10 minutes for soft boiled eggs, 11-14 minutes for medium boiled eggs, or 15-17 minutes for hard boiled eggs. (I recommend 15 minutes for perfect air fryer hard boiled eggs with a creamy, not dry, yolk).
-
Meanwhile, prepare an ice bath (a large bowl filled with ice and cold water. The water level should be high enough to fully cover the eggs).
-
When the eggs are finished cooking, immediately transfer to the ice bath. Let sit for 6-8 minutes, then peel and enjoy.

0Should the eggs be room temperature or is just out of the fridge OK? That would definitely make a difference in cooking time.

0Hi Dorothy, My testing was out of the fridge.

0I like that idea, I’m going to give it a try and see what happens. I’ll let you know.

0Thanks for the recipe/time/temp chart for cooking eggs in the air fryer. I will be trying this method next week. (I just did my hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot today).

0Thanks for sharing that time chart!! That makes it so easy to know how long, depending on what type of egg we want. The air fryer makes it so easy!

0This recipe has really taken the guesswork out of making boiled eggs. When I did stove top I tried all the “hacks” and getting them to the right doneness or to peel easily was always hit or miss. I keep backyard hens so being able to easily create the perfect hard boiled eggs is a must for me!

0Wonderful! New to air fryer cooking and looking for some guide lines. Your site was very informative and easy to understand!

0Worked perfectly for 2 eggs in Gourmia air fryer. Followed instructions as written, 17 min. Hoping this will avoid cracked shells.
Katt
0Your recipe + photos = game changers! Consistently cooked and peeled to perfection – no more guesswork on timing, over or underdone eggs, or shells cracking while cooking and leaving ‘trails’ of streaming egg white, or peeling disasters – I’ll never use another recipe for hard boiled eggs again. Thank you!
Melanie
0I just finally purchased an air fryer last week, and this recipe is the first I’ve tried that was completely successful at the first attempt, with no need for adjustment. I live at a high altitude and hard boiling eggs is just so difficult. I’m a little squeamish with yolks that aren’t nice and crumbly, and the 17 minute time along with the ice bath afterward, got my eggs to the perfect doneness for me. Thank you so much!
Stacey Erin
0Worked but for me the inner membrane separating the egg and the shell fused completely to the egg making shell removal after the ice bath all but impossible – the worst I’ve ever experienced (275 degrees for 15 minutes, preheated). I might try this at lower than 275 degrees or for less than 15 minutes next time in case my air fryer isn’t accurate, but based on the first try, I would use this method of cooking in times of desperation only. It is good to have options.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Stacey, I have never experienced that with this recipe. Maybe try rolling the egg on the counter gently pressing on it to create cracks all over. Simply peel away a portion of shell and the rest should come off effortlessly.
Peggy
0Excellent way to hardboil eggs! Thanks!!
Gail
0I need to know what temp you set air fryer on.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Gail, You can find all the instructions for making the hard boiled eggs on the recipe card directly above where you left this comment.
Brett
0The cooking temperature isn’t listed on the recipe card. Not that I can see, anyway. We will try this anyway, just on a low setting.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Brett, In step #1 on the recipe card you will see that you should preheat your air fryer to 275 degrees F.
Cathy Nelson
0It worked fine on my second attempt. I would have preferred the tempurature was shown at the beginning of the instruction s like the time was. Thanks
Rose Ann
