Free Printable: Low Carb & Keto Food List
Get It NowHigh-sugar smoothies are not suitable for a keto diet, as they use high-sugar fruits like bananas, added sugar, honey, or milk with high carbs. There’s good news, though: It’s easy to make keto smoothie recipes for breakfast as long as you use keto fruits and sugar substitutes. This strawberry avocado keto smoothie recipe is creamy, satisfying, nourishing and just plain delicious… all with just 4 ingredients.
Besides, the simple, whole food components in this one mean that it’s a great simply healthy option even if you’re not on keto. Whether it’s too hot for keto oatmeal or you just need a quick snack, this ice cold, rich and creamy drink is sure to satisfy.
Don’t worry, you won’t even taste the avocado! Similar to strawberry almond milk or a sugar-free slushie, keto smoothies can have lots of sweet fruit flavor — plus an added boost of healthy fats. This is about to become one of your go-to keto smoothie recipes. 😉
Why You’ll Love This Keto Smoothie Recipe
- Sweet and fruity flavor
- Thick, ultra creamy texture
- Just 4 ingredients
- 2 minutes to make
- Naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free
- Packed with vitamins and minerals

For a truly creamy and sweet keto smoothie without the sugar spike, a powdered keto sweetener is a must. This recipe uses Besti Powdered Monk Fruit Allulose Blend because it dissolves seamlessly into every sip — nobody wants a gritty drink! Most other sugar substitutes (including most brands of monk fruit and stevia) use erythritol as a bulking agent, which does not dissolve well. Plus, Besti has 0 grams of net carbs and tastes just like sugar, making it perfect for a drink that tastes like it came straight from the smoothie shop.

Keto Smoothie Ingredients & Variations
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for a keto smoothie with avocado, what each one does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card below.
Basic Ingredients:
- Avocado – Adds a perfect creamy texture that makes this recipe almost like a dessert instead of a keto fruit smoothie. You can also use frozen avocado! And in case you’re wondering, you won’t taste the avocado — it’s just there for texture and nutrition!
- Milk – Every keto smoothie recipe needs liquid, and ideally some kind of milk for that creamy flavor and texture that makes it even more delish. If you want to make your strawberry avocado smoothie with almond milk, you could make a homemade almond milk or use a store-bought brand with no sugar added. Vanilla almond milk is also a delicious option. If you’re not dairy-free or paleo, you can swap out half the almond milk for heavy cream for a richer, creamier version. If you are dairy-free and/or paleo, or need a nut-free alternative, then use coconut milk or hemp milk.
- Berries – This is for flavor and sweetness in your avocado almond milk smoothie. We’re using frozen berries, because they help make the smoothie thicker and colder, but fresh ones are fine to use if that’s all you have. Strawberries are among the lowest carb fruit options available on your low carb foods list. They are also great for an avocado fruit smoothie because they are sweeter than other berries, so you can use less sweetener. You could use blueberries or raspberries if you want something more tart, have a sensitivity to strawberries, or just want to shake up your raw avocado smoothie recipe.
- Sweetener – I prefer Besti Powdered Monk Fruit Allulose Blend for a smooth texture. It blends well, tastes like sugar, and doesn’t get gritty. If you use a sweetener other than Besti (check my sweetener conversion guide), you’ll need to make a sugar-free simple syrup with it, so that it doesn’t get gritty, and even then there’s a risk it won’t dissolve completely. Besti will dissolve effortlessly with no aftertaste, so it’s what I always reach for. You can also use Wholesome Yum Keto Simple Syrup instead, which is perfect for all kinds of drinks. Finally, you could even omit sweetener altogether if you don’t want it very sweet, and depending on how sweet your strawberries are.
Other Possible Additions:
- Yogurt – Creates a creamier texture. Be sure your yogurt is unsweetened; I recommend using full-fat Greek yogurt or this keto yogurt recipe.
- Protein Powder – Add unflavored, or flavored but unsweetened, collagen or whey protein powder for a protein boost. You can also try my protein smoothie recipe.
- Nut Butter – Peanut butter, almond butter, or any other nut butter is great for adding healthy fats and thickening, though this strawberry smoothie recipe is already quite thick from the frozen strawberries and avocado. If you add nut butter, you may need more milk and sweetener.
- Vanilla Extract – Great addition if you’re not already using vanilla almond milk.

How To Make A Keto Smoothie
This section shows how to make an avocado and strawberry smoothie with step-by-step photos and details about the technique, to help you visualize it. For full instructions, including amounts and temperatures, see the recipe card below.
- Combine. Add all ingredients to a high-power blender.
- Blend. Blend until the mixture is smooth. If your blender gets stuck, stir and blend again. (You can also thin out with more milk if your blender isn’t powerful enough.)
- Taste. Adjust sweetener to taste as needed.
- Garnish. I like to garnish with a fresh strawberry and sometimes, sugar-free whipped cream.

Storage Instructions
You can make this strawberry keto smoothie for later, just be aware that the avocado can brown a bit and may be thinner since the strawberries will no longer be frozen. You may want to add a splash of lemon juice or lime juice to help reduce the browning effect, or just skip the hassle and make it fresh.
- Store: If you have leftovers from your strawberry avocado smoothie, pour them into an airtight container (ideally to the brim to prevent oxidation and browning), or a zip lock bag with the air pushed out. Seal and store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
- Freeze: Pour leftovers into a freezer-safe container, ice cube tray, or zip lock bag. Freeze up to 2 months.
- Enjoy: If the smoothie shows any signs of separation after storing or freezing, give it a quick blend to incorporate it again.

0Wow, delicious! I only had sour cherries so that’s what I used. Did not need any sweetener though, it was fab as is. Definitely looking forward to diving into your other recipes since the first one I mad turned out to be a winner.
Deanna Slaughter
0This is so delicious! To me, it tastes like a strawberry milkshake but without the guilt or extra calories! Looking forward to making it again, especially in the coming hot summer months. Yum yum!
Shanon
0I’ve made this, and was wondering if you could use a “pinch” of sugar free jello powder to enhance flavor and omit unnecessary sweetness? And if so would lower carb count?
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Shanon, I have never tried that but let me know the results if you do.
Jo deandrade
0Loving these low carb smoothie recipes! Thank you!
Melissa Mobley
0Very good!
LauraBear
0A simple recipe that delivers! I had a mix of frozen berries instead and enjoyed the smoothie without added sweetener. It tastes rich and creamy.
Carrie
0The avocado is actually good in there, was a bit skeptical. I used frozen diced avacado which made it harder to blend but its nice and thick. I didn’t have a scale to weigh the strawberries hope the macros come out ok. I have an entire blender full and its just me. Don’t know what to do other than try to freeze it in smaller portions.
Sue
0Love it! Especially with the additional ingredients.
Cheryl
0Tried this smoothie for an evening dessert… My husband and father said it was delicious! I used almond/coconut milk. Will definitely make it again!
J
0I happen to have all the ingredients on hand so I gave this a try. Omg! This was delicious!! Super thick and very yummy! This was my supper, so I added two tablespoons of whipped cream cheese. So for dinner I actually had strawberry cheesecake! LOL this recipe is a keeper! Thank you 💕
Virginia
0Awesome taste.
Virginia
0Absolutely delicious

0🌼Maya~I’m so grateful that you re-posted this on youtube today! I forget how many delicious recipes you have, & this one is no exception~ thank you so much=) I think I might try it w/frozen blackberries & yogurt this time, maybe a little bit of lemon zest~ oh yum! *Also, a tip for storing in the freezer is to go ahead & put the extra into small jars w/lids~ it makes a great grab & go in the car because within a little while it defrosts to drinkable consistency~ just shake it a few times first. Can also eat w/a spoon, or store in those paper ice cream cups w/lids~ same easy grab & no messy scooping out of a larger container. Thanks again dear one~ Samantha in AZ

0I followed the recipe exactly but also added coconut water the thin the mix – fantastic 🙂
Kay
0Does the avocado make the smoothie turn dark?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Kay, No, it does not, as you can see from the pictures, the strawberry color overpowers it. Sometimes if your berries are less bright red, the smoothie can be a lighter pink, but still not dark.
Charlene Marie Tijerina
0Do you know how much Swerve I would add instead of the monk fruit? A 1/4 cup seems like a lot.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Charlene, I recommend using my Sweetener Conversion Chart to find out the correct amount of sweetener to use.
Clare Brown
0OMG, so delicious. I don’t do smoothies but this was so tasteful and filling. I hate sweetener, so didn’t add any into blender. It was still delicious and I’m hooked now. You don’t need sweetener in this smoothie as the strawberries add that sweetness anyway. Keep up the good work, from Scotland 😋
Abby
0This was so good! And to the people that are not very nice with their posts, please think about how much hard work goes into this for food bloggers etc. Be kind in your criticisms. These are real people with real feelings reading what you say. Thank you Maya, I enjoy your recipes!
Dar
0So yummy! I hadn’t thought of putting avocado in a smoothie.
Big fan now!
Neo
0I can’t believe a smoothie so simple could be SO delicious. I was blown away by how the flavors balanced out. Yum!
Fokensheetman
0This recipe is a complete afterthought. It needs to be reexamined for the thought of 2 people, with actual measurements found in the kitchen. Having to google 2/5 lb and 3/10 cup is sloppy work.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Did you scale the recipe servings? Scaling can result in some unusual measurements, but otherwise it uses common measurements (1 pound, 1 1/2 cups, 1/4 cup, etc.) You should not need to Google anything.
Amy
0I’m not sure what recipe the person was reading who commented on weird measurements. I don’t see anything weird (2/5 lb???) The measurements were normal and perfect. Delicious!!
Laura Kiesbye
0Question. If I change the serving size, does the nutrition change below to that size? I wish this was lower than 7g net. Not sure I can afford that many carbs on one meal. 😢 I’m guessing sugars are sugar alcohols and are deducted. Just trying to make sure I don’t overdo carbs today.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Laura, The sugar comes from the strawberries and would not be subtracted.
Julie Sale
0Just made this recipe this morning and to be completely honest, was a little skeptical. I am not a fan of avocados, especially paired with strawberries! I am here to admit, my skepticism was absolutely NOT warranted. Unlike the super sweet and calorie dense smoothies you find at most specialty shops, this smoothie is so crazy simple and absolutely delicious. The avocado actually makes it super thick and leaves no avocado-y taste! This will be a staple in my house!!! Thank you so much for the recipe!!
Amy L Huntley
0This is so yummy! It’s my new favorite recipe when I need something sweet. I love that it’s healthy too! My kids have been having it when I make it as well. This one is a keeper for sure!
Becky
0Great recipe! However… Why not photograph the actual recipe so ppl aren’t shocked or disapppointed when their recipe turns out murky ugly color which happens when avocado is added to smoothies. ?? Though since my 1st time adding avocado to a smoothie I have not looked back!!
How thick, creamy, whole food Wonderful to have all that fat in there!!! But color… That’s got to be sacrificed for yum factor!!!
But that pic is not accurate. Why?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Becky, I’m glad you like the recipe! The photo is the actual recipe, I made and photographed it myself. I never post fake photos. The color of the smoothie can vary a bit depending on how bright red your strawberries are.
Kristyn
0Quick, easy, & hardly any ingredients, make this my kind of smoothie!! Love strawberry & avocado!!
Swathi
0This low carb strawberry keto smoothie looks yum.
Sharron Diaz
0This has been my go-to smoothie! The whole family loves it!
Jaspaul
07g of net carbs a serving means that a single one of these smoothies takes up a good chunk of my daily carb intake without really giving me the fats that I would need to stay in ketosis. A little disappointing.
Beavis
0Took me 5 min of scrolling through a bunch of stuff I don’t need to know and wasn’t interested in finding the actual recipe. Just to find out that I don’t have all the ingredients! Put the recipe first, then tell your life story afterward. If people are interested in, what is almond milk.. which everyone should know by now they can read it.
Wholesome Yum D
0Hi Beavis, There is a “jump to recipe” button right at the top of each page that will allow you to go right to the recipe.
Dara Cartee
0Hi Maya! I love your recipes so I can’t wait to try this one. I watched the video so I’m assuming this recipe makes 2-8oz servings? If that’s not correct, could you clarify?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Dara, This recipe makes 5 1-cup servings. I hope this helps!
Liz
07 g minus fiber..2 grams of carbs per serving
Patricia
0I love this recipe but I live alone. If I half the recipe, can I put the unused (1 serving) into the fridge or freezer to have the next day?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Patricia, Yes, that will work just fine!
Leslie R Ellins
0I love this recipe! So refreshing in the morning instead of my bullet proof coffee.
Maggie
0That calories is a joke. An avocado has 300 calories alone. Are you saying we’d only be drinking a small amount of it?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Maggie, This recipe makes 5 one-cup (8 oz) servings.
Reyna
0A little tangy, but tasty. I drank one cup as my first meal since I was not very hungry. I will probably make it more as a breakfast meal or as one of my snacks. Will definitely have my husband try it. Will be making it more often.
Valarie Evans
0Did you really mean a pound of strawberries?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Valerie, Yes this recipe calls for a pound of strawberries. Keep in mind it does make 5 servings.
Cheryl Stephen
0I use this smoothie when I work early morning shifts. I use this as a boost of energy to get me through to the end of my shift. My work day starts at 2:30 am.
I add a half of a scoop of Multi Collagen for added protein. I also divide smoothie into 3 1quart canning jars filling them up equally.
Tina
0I was skeptical about this smoothie recipe, but made it anyway. OMG!! It’s soooooo good! I used coconut milk and a little monk fruit sugar along with the avocado and strawberries. It was so decadent and tasty! This can work for breakfast or a “satisfy that sweet tooth” snack! Thank you so much!!
Cheryl Stephen
0I find most of the recpies easy to follow and make. I have made the chicken ranch and the egg roll casserole both came out great.
Jeannine Rossi
0Can you use fresh
strawberries in the smoothie?
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Jeannine, YES! Fresh strawberries work great!
Jamie
0Hi,
my husband and teenage son have both been on Keto for about 2 months now and I’m having a hard time getting enough fat in my son’s daily intake because he’s so picky and rarely eats breakfast. He won’t eat eggs unless in crepes or hidden nor will he eat avocado. He suggested trying avocado in a smoothie so I’m hoping this one will be the one! I have been reading that MCT oil & powder are ways to add extra fat and energy to smoothies and other foods. Do you recommend either of those as additions to this smoothie and how much? If you have any other suggestions on recipes these can be added to that would be great. Also, any suggestions on other ways to increase daily fat would be very helpful! Thanks for all the work you have done to make this journey so much easier for us!
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Jamie, Remember that fat is your lever, you only need to eat enough to keep yourself satiated. So if your son is not hungry, then there isn’t any need to push more fats. Skipping breakfast is also fine if that is his preference. It’s a great way to work in Intermittent Fasting. MCT oil is a great tool to add fats if they are needed. If you are just getting started with using MCT oil, start with 1/2 teaspoon and slowly increase. Adding too much too quickly can cause stomach upset. I hope this helps!
Angela
0This is my new go-to smoothie! It’s incredibly rich, creamy, filling, and delicious. Did I mention easy to make? I’d never tried avocado in a smoothie before, and TBH I was a tad nervous. I needn’t have worried—it’s easily the best smoothie I’ve ever tasted. Hubby loved it too!
Sama
0Hi!! Love the smoothie but I wasn’t sure if I was reading the recipe correctly. Does it call for 1 pound of strawberries? Thanks so much for the help!
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Sama, That is correct. It sounds like a lot of strawberries, but keep in mind this recipe makes 5 servings. Enjoy!
pat
0Since this is my first try at a smoothie, how can I make just ONE serving and what are the amount of the ingredients? I tried to change the servings to 1 OR 2, on the recipe, but it didn’t adjust the quantities.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
0Hi Pat, The quantities should change when you change the servings on the recipe card. It’s working for me when I try it. If it’s not working for you, please email us here so that we can try to help troubleshoot. Otherwise you could also manually divide each ingredient by the number of servings in the original recipe, but it really should work without you having to do that.
bren037
0This recipe sounds amazing. I am excited to try it. Do you know if it can be made ahead? Since quarantine started, I have been eating my lunch in my car at work and prefer something cold over heating something up then taking it to my car. I like the idea of something portable.
Wholesome Yum M
0Hi Bren037, If you are blending your smoothie in the morning, then it’s probably fine. You may want to add a squeeze of lemon or lime to your drink to keep the avocado from oxidizing.
Tracey Dooling
0Loved it. I was so surprised my husband went along with “ice-cream” for dinner and loved it! He’s not a smoothie person. We do split a whole recipe and use 1/4 cup of cream and 3/4 cup water instead of almond milk. Made it in our nutribullet with frozen sour cherries, or blackberry and black raspberry mix. Blueberries next. Also used Swerve powdered for sweetener. I hadn’t enjoyed much made with the swerve before this. Excellent and I lost a few lbs the first week even though I’ve been trying to do keto for 2yrs. It was the sweeteners doing me in, had to have ice cream and chocolate (too often) with sugar.
Princess
0Didn’t have strawberries so I used fresh blueberries instead and stevia for sweetener. Turned out so good! Thanks for the recipe!
Corena Sutton
0This is my first time trying keto and I am so glad that I found this keto smoothie recipe. It was delicious!!! Thank you so much!
Cassandra
0This is my first time to try this and my family and I love it.
Louise Potter
0Excellent smoothie! For the sweetener I used a monkfruit/erythritol combo and it worked well.
I used frozen avocado chunks, so it would be helpful to have the weight of this ingredient.
Thanks for the recipe!!
Kat
0So easy and so good! I used stevia as my sweetener and it worked great – none of that frequent stevia after taste with the avocado and strawberries.
