The post you’ve been waiting for!!! HOW TO MAKE CHAFFLES! This comprehensive guide shares all of the details on what chaffles are, why everyone is obsessed, and the best keto chaffles recipe. I’ve also included FOUR additional chaffle varieties – both sweet chaffles and savory chaffles. Plus, all my tricks and tips I’ve learned along the way.
I found out about the concept of keto chaffles from my Facebook support group and several long Reddit threads. The original formula I saw in there was 1/2 cup cheese + 1 egg. Which I tried. And it was good!
But it was a bit too eggy for me, so I made some variations on the original recipe that I think make a far superior, best chaffle recipe ever!
So, let’s get into how to make chaffles! (FYI: I’ve also heard some people refer to chaffles as “okie eggos”.)
What Are Chaffles?
Chaffles are cheese + waffles = chaffles! Fun, right?
We’re essentially making a waffle out of keto-freindly ingredients, like cheese and eggs.
As I mentioned above, the chaffle recipes I saw originally were made from just cheese and eggs, but I found these to be a bit too eggy. The addition of almond flour and psyllium husk powder makes these taste much more like a traditional waffle – so much so that my husband could hardly believe they were keto!
I have a basic chaffle recipe, but I’m also including two savory chaffles and two sweet chaffles – I highly recommend trying all five!
How To Make Chaffles (With Tips!)
This keto chaffles recipe is so easy! Let me walk you through how to make chaffles:
- Preheat your waffle iron. You want it hot so that when the batter hits the pan, it starts cooking! (See my guide below on which waffle maker to use for chaffles.)
- Gather your ingredients. The basic ingredients are eggs and cheese, but the best chaffles have some other things added! See my variations below.
- Gently melt the cream cheese, if using. The basic chaffle recipe doesn’t include cream cheese, but the sweet chaffles and the jalapeno popper savory chaffles do. This step just ensures that we can stir it into the batter.
TIP: You can melt the cream cheese in the microwave or a double boiler. It doesn’t need to be piping hot, just warm so that you can stir it.
- Mix the chaffle batter. Stir together all your chaffle ingredients. These will vary depending on if you’re making sweet chaffles or savory chaffles, but the basic ingredients will include at least egg and cheese. (The flavor options I have for you are on the recipe card below!)
Cheese TIP: If you want your chaffle more uniform in texture, use finely shredded cheese instead of regular shredded mozzarella. I usually have regular so that’s what I used and it was still delicious!
Nut-Free Chaffle TIP: If using coconut flour, let the batter sit for a few minutes to thicken.
Crispy Chaffle TIP: The optimal crispy chaffles tend to have a thicker batter. Some chaffle batters are thicker than others, and I recommend a thicker batter. Just spread it onto the waffle maker if it’s thicker.
- Cook your chaffle. Pour the batter into the waffle maker to cover the surface well. Cook until browned and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
TIP: You’ll know the chaffle is done when steam is no longer coming out the sides, or at least very little is coming out compared to earlier. Some waffle makers also have a light that will tell you it’s done.
How To Make Chaffles Crispy (Not Eggy!)
I have a few tricks to make your chaffles both crispy (YUM!) and not taste super eggy.
- Let the chaffles cool completely to reduce eggy taste. You can reheat them on the stove top, air fryer, or oven after, if you want them hot or more crispy.
- If you are sensitive to an eggy flavor, you can replace the egg with 2 egg whites in any chaffle recipe.
- For savory chaffles, you can make them more crispy by sprinkling some plain shredded cheese onto the waffle maker first, then add the filling, then more shredded cheese. The extra shredded cheese on the outside will help them get more crispy. This is not recommended for sweet chaffles, since shredded cheeses that are not mixed into the batter will make them too salty.
Chaffles Nutrition Info & Carb Count
The calories and carbs in chaffles will vary depending on the version you make and what you put in them. Below is the nutrition info for all the different versions I made for you.
TIP: The nutrition info listed is always for 1 mini chaffle (for easy scaling), but sometimes you could have two, such as for a sandwich or full meal. The basic chaffle and garlic Parmesan recipes make 2 mini chaffles each. The cinnamon sugar (churro), pumpkin, and spicy jalapeno popper recipes make 3 mini chaffles each.
Basic Chaffle Recipe For Sandwiches:
These are just plain chaffles! They are pretty neutral, not sweet or savory, making them great for sandwiches.

- 2g net carbs
- 16g fat
- 11g protein
Garlic Parmesan Chaffles:
These are like garlic bread in chaffle form. I like topping them with extra melted mozzarella, grated parmesan, and a touch of parsley.
- 182 calories
- 2g net carbs
- 11g fat
- 16g protein
Cinnamon Sugar (Churro) Chaffles:
Who doesn’t love churros?! You can eat these chaffles whole, or for a more churro-like experience, cut them into sticks.
- 179 calories
- 2g net carbs
- 14g fat
- 10g protein
Pumpkin Chaffles:
I like to use homemade pumpkin pie spice for these, but store bought works as well. A dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon makes them just perfect.
- 117 calories
- 3g net carbs
- 7g fat
- 7g protein
Spicy Jalapeno Popper Chaffles:
Many of you have asked me for spicy chaffles, so I made these jalapeno popper flavored ones! Melted cheddar, bacon bits, and a couple jalapeno slices make the perfect topping.

What Kind Of Waffle Maker For Chaffles?
I own two types of waffle makers and tested this chaffle recipe in both. Here are the ones I recommend:
- Dash Mini Waffle Maker – This mini waffle maker is best for 4-inch sandwich chaffles. It’s what I used for all the ones pictured in this post.
- Belgian Waffle Maker – The classic waffle iron size will also work well for sweet chaffles and savory chaffles, as the recipes have a bit more batter.
How Much Batter To Use For Chaffles?
You’ll use about ~1/4 cup batter per chaffle if you’re using a mini waffle maker. This measurement can be scant for the 3-waffle recipes or a full 1/4 cup for the 2-waffle recipes, but don’t go over 1/4 cup or it will overflow. For a normal waffle maker, use approximately 1/2 cup batter.
TIP: If you have a Belgian waffle maker but want to make sandwiches, you can also cut your large waffle into quarters and use each as sandwich bread that way.
Can You Make Chaffles Without A Waffle Maker?
Yes! You won’t get the crunchy ridges, but it is possible and still plenty delicious to make a chaffle without a waffle maker.
Once you’ve mixed your batter, pour (or spread depending on how thick your batter is) the chaffle batter onto a greased, hot nonstick pan and let cook until golden brown, then carefully flip with a spatula. You’ll make them the same way you would make keto pancakes!
Can You Substitute Ingredients In Chaffles?
Yes! The basic ingredients in chaffles are eggs and cheese, and other than that, they are pretty forgiving. Feel free to play around or swap out anything you don’t like.
If you have allergies or intolerances to the main ingredients, here are some options for those:
- Substituting Eggs – If you can’t have eggs, you can substitute a flax egg in any chaffle recipe. Stir together 1 tbsp flax seeds with 3 tbsp water and let sit for 15 minutes to thicken.
- Substituting Cheese – While I haven’t tried it, I’m pretty sure that vegan cheese substitutes will work in place of shredded cheese or cream cheese in keto chaffles. Check labels to make sure that the carb count is still low.
For chaffle recipes that require flour of some kind, the versions I have below list amounts for both almond and coconut flour. You can choose which one you prefer to use.
How To Serve Chaffles
The way you serve chaffles partly depends on the flavor! Here are some ideas:
- Make a chaffle sandwich using the plain chaffle recipe. I did turkey, mayo, lettuce, and tomato, but they are also delicious to have as a breakfast sandwich with oven baked bacon, egg and cheese.
- Drizzle on some syrup or jam.Sugar-free maple syrup or sugar-free chia jam are both delicious on sweet chaffles!
- Add melted cheese and toppings. For savory chaffles, like garlic Parmesan or jalapeno popper, I like to melt some extra cheese on top and sprinkle with garnishes.
- Cut cinnamon churro waffles into sticks and serve in a basket.
How To Store Chaffles
Once you’ve let your chaffles cool, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When it’s time to reheat, use a toaster, toaster oven, skillet, or oven to toast them up again.
Can You Freeze Chaffles?
Yes, you can freeze chaffles.
You can reheat chaffles in the toaster, toaster oven, skillet, or conventional oven at 350 degrees. I prefer the toaster, which is the fastest and easiest.
TIP: Note that chaffle recipes that contain only egg and cheese, without any almond or coconut flour, will be a bit less sturdy in the toaster. If they are too floppy for the toaster, you can try the oven as well.
How To Reheat Chaffles
You can reheat keto chaffles in the toaster, toaster oven, skillet, or conventional oven at 350 degrees. I prefer the toaster which is the fastest and easiest.
TIP: Check my additional tips above about how to make chaffles crispy – you can apply many of them to frozen chaffles as well.

Instructions:
Preheat your mini waffle iron for about 5 minutes, until hot.
If the recipe contains cream cheese, place it into a bowl first. Heat it gently in the microwave (~15-30 seconds) or a double boiler, until it's soft and easy to stir.
Stir in all other remaining ingredients (except toppings, if any).
Pour enough of the chaffle batter into the waffle maker to cover the surface well. (That's about 1/2 cup batter for a regular waffle maker and 1/4 cup for a mini waffle maker.)
Cook until browned and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. (See my tip in the post above about other ways to tell they are done without opening the waffle maker!)
Carefully remove the chaffle from the waffle maker and set aside to crisp up more. (Cooling is important for texture!) Repeat with remaining batter, if any.
Special instruction for churro chaffles only:
Stir together the erythritol and cinnamon for topping. After the chaffles are cooked and no longer hot, brush them with melted butter, then sprinkle all over with the cinnamon "sugar" topping (or dip into the topping).

I made the churros ones and OMG….THE YUMMIIEST!!
Zelide V Cain
Absolutely amazing! No joke! Tastes like I’m eating a waffle and so so easy to make that I pretty much mix the ingredients, cook and foil it up. I’m trying the churro next because if the original was that good, I could only imagine how the others would taste. Also, even my kids loved it! Reminder though, don’t let it cool down too much cause then it gets chewy.
Melissa
Made the churro chaffles!!! Omg so yummy!!
Ivy
My first time trying and making chaffles with success. I’m so glad I found this recipe. I try to made them before following a completely different recipe and they weren’t good at all. Bit this ones, OMG!!! DELICIOUS!!!
Tara
This will be the only chaffle recipe I use. No eggy taste. And the closest thing to taste like real waffle.
Thank you !!!!!

Gerri
Happy Sunday!
I like the taste but can’t figure out what I need to change so that Chaffles aren’t falling to pieces. I’m literally scraping out the pieces/chunks and I did put cooking oil on, and heat up waffflemaker well on my second try. Suggestions? Thanks
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Gerri, These chaffles should not be falling apart. Are you making any substitutions? Does your batter look like it does in the images on this page?
Gerri
They are falling apart when I remove them. Wonder if a Belgian waffle maker is too deep but don’t know what else to do. Only substitution coconut oil for butter.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Gerri, Oh yes, if you are using a deep Belgian waffle maker, that could be causing the issue. This mini waffle maker is the one I use for chaffles.
William Retallack
My mini-chaffle maker arrived from Amazon this week, I ordered it after finding your recipes, and I tried it out this morning. To be honest keto recipes have often disappointed but these were wonderful. We just tried the basic recipe today with a little grass fed butter and some Lakanto syrup. oh my gosh they were so satisfying. Thanks so much!
Hbevo
My goodness these are MAGIC! So good that I had to write a review, which I’ve never done before.
I didn’t have any psyllium, so I used metamucil instead, worked an absolute charm and I didn’t taste any strange orangey-ness. Used the basic recipe and added a few splashes of cinnamon powder. I doubled the batch and it made three regular sized square waffles. Topped with some sugar free maple syrup and whipped cream.
YUMMO!
Deanna
Do you spray your waffle maker first with Pam
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Deanna, If your iron is coated with a non-stick, then it’s not necessary to grease it first. If it’s not then I would spray with your favorite non-stick spray before using.
Morgan
This recipe was amazing!!! It was quick and easy and I loved the little notes. My whole family enjoyed this very much.
Karen
Just bought my first Chaffle Maker and soooo looking forward to trying these recipes. Looks yummy!!
Hope
Wow, these are perfect chaffle recipes! They are so easy to make and all ingredients are usually on-hand.
My favorite is the cinnamon churro – kinda remind me of french toast.
YUM!! I’d give more stars if I could!
thank you for these amazing recipes!
Julie
I have tried both the basic chaffle recipe and the cinnamon. I added garlic and italian spices to the basic and they came out tasting like a delish garlic bread. Love them. Unfortunately, I felt the cinnamon had day too much sugar substitute and were barely edible. I will try them again with 1/2 the sugar substitute. Also, there’s no need to sprinkle more on top of the waffle…..just too much. Maybe a few pecans for crunch.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Julie, I’m glad you liked the basic one. For the sweet version, did you use the same sugar substitute? They vary widely in sweetness, so if you used something else, it might have turned out way too sweet. I don’t find mine turn out too sweet with Besti.
Andrea
Made a BLT with the sandwich chaffle, it was delicious! Thank you!
Mary
need a good keto chaffle recipe without cheese. Your chaffle’s all look so good just can’t have the cheese.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Mary, A chaffle is a waffle recipe using egg and cheese. If you need to skip the cheese, you can either use dairy-free shredded cheese or skip the chaffle recipes and make keto waffles. Here are a few waffle recipes that do not use cheese or cream cheese Easy Vanilla Protein Waffles, Keto Paleo Almond Flour Waffles, and Flourless Low Carb Waffles.
Megan
Tried the churro chaffle. It is sooooo delicious and a great cure to a serious sweet tooth!
Sandra
Jalapeño Popper version
Easy to make and they taste great. I don’t have a mini waffle maker so I used a regular waffle maker and made 1 large instead of 2 minis. The simplicity will definitely have me making these again.
Will try the other versions soon.
Darren
Hi there, what is the conversion rate from cups to ounce please
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Darren, 1/2 cup is 4 ounces, 3/4 cup is 6 ounces.
Heather Herrmann
Can you make some ahead for a weeks meals? Do they store in the refrigerator well?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Heather, Yes, chaffles work great for meal prep. They can be frozen or stored in the fridge and re-heat beautifully!
Nikki Miller
These all look so great, can’t wait to try! I like to meal prep for work days, so I’m wondering if they freeze well?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Nikki, Yes! These freeze great and work well for meal prep!
Ernesto
LOVE IT! I did the churro chafle and I was amazed. Followed the instructions to the T and it was great. Paired it with the classic Keto breakfast, eggs and bacon. Topped the chaffle with a dollop of whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkles. It was so satisfying. Making this one mine and can’t wait to try the others as well.
Maddie
I have made several of these now and they are absolutely delicious. I even tried onion to make a onion one and it was super good! Much better than just throwing on cheese and a pickles or jalapeños!! I ordered some psyllium husk powder and looking forward to trying that with the recipes.
Eric
Avocado and egg Chaffle
Make a cheddar Chaffle with some seasoning.
A 1 or 2 egg bacon omelette. Sprinkle more cheese on omelette
Avocado spread.
Spread avocado on hot waffle. Top with omelette.
Pat
Is there a substitute for erythritol? I am new to keto and do not have access to that ingredient.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Pat, Any keto sweetener will work. My favorite is actually monk fruit allulose blend, which you can get here.
Kim Y
Made the Jalapeño chaffles are they were amazing!!! Making them again tonight and possibly making the churros too!
Deborah Hudders
OMG! If there is a Nobel for “Saving Other Peoples Sanity,” I nominate you! This recipe was amazing! I didn’t have the psyllium husk or baking powder, but I just made the basic chaffle. I let it cool a little then said, “Why not?” and added a little butter and sugar-free syrup. WOW! It really did taste like a waffel (in my opinion). I can’t wait to try the other variations. Thank you!
Synthavanh
Made the basic and the churro recipes. Both delicious!! My picky husband even liked them!! They are very versatile!
Kathy
Just made the cinnamon ones and doubled the recipe and reduced the sweetener by a 1/3 , and they came out great! Not eggy at all! These are my first chaffles and can’t wait to make more!
Kristine
The cinnamon sugar ones were so good! I’m looking forward to making the other flavors, too. It’s the first time I used the Dash mini and made a chaffle. The size is just like the store-bought frozen waffles so they’re not as ‘mini’ as I was picturing. They are very filling and since they’re low carb I didn’t go back for 4 more. The next time I’ll do like others have and make a big batch so I can freeze some. Thank you, Maya!
cedens
Still tasted like crispy cheesy, egg to me. Definitely not a great substitute for a traditional waffle for me personally but crispy cheese is tasty!
LaDale Ray
Agreed!
Kristine
Could you let them cool and reheat them as Maya suggests above? That may help with the eggy flavor.
Cora
I use savory chaffles as a bread substitute not a replacement for waffles.
Mary
I have a question about the almond flour. My bag of almond flour says 2 Tbsp = 14g. When I switch to metric in your recipe the amound of almond flour goes from 2 Tbsp to 29.57 g. Based on the measurement on my bag that would be 4 Tbsp not 2. Which one did you intend for the recipe – 2 Tbsp or 4 Tbsp? I’ve been using 14g for the recipe with no issues. My kids LOVE this recipe!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Mary, The weight will change depending on the brand of almond flour and how finely ground it is. I would use 2 tbsp according to the weight listed on your bag of almond flour, as it is obviously a different grind from the almond flour I used.
Brenda
I loved the original Chaffle recipe and had already added Swerve sugar and cinnamon to it. What I really love is the mini waffle maker. It is perfect and fast. Clean up is fast and easy. I am slowly building my own book of favorite recipes and this site is chock full of great ideas. Thank you so much for helping me with my new lifestyle.
Sue H
Chaffles really help me stick with keto when the bread cravings kick in. This recipe is my favorite… It’s got more of a bread consistency than the typical chaffles recipes. I’m not a fan of most commercial keto breads on the market so this quick and easy recipe is a lifesaver for me.
Susan
For my first Chaffle ever, I used your garlic cheese variation. It was amazing!!! So very flavorful ❤️
Wendy
To make a Chaffee can you use cream cheese and then leave the shredded cheese out? Or do you still need both? Thank you for your help!!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Wendy, The mozzarella provides the structure and texture for this recipe, it won’t work with cream cheese.
Judy Brown
Oh My Goodness!
I’ve been waiting for my mini waffle iron to get here…It finally got here and the FIRST Chaffle recipe I tried was the Chirro Chaffle.
My keto life has been transformed! I’ve been craving something sweet and this fit the bill.
I didn’t have regular erythritol, but substituted it with brown sugar erythritol. This took the Chaffle to a whole new level!
I can’t wait to try the other 4 variations.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!
YUMMY!
Mrs Mitchell
I am a bariatric surgery patient, it was suggested I use a chaffle as a pizza crust. I wonder what would happen to the texture of this if I put pizza toppings on it and heated in an air fryer? I think the garlic one would be so good as a low carb pizza crust!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Mrs. Mitchell, An air fryer makes chaffle pizzas nice and crispy! I recommend giving it a try, but keep a close eye on them so they don’t burn. This can happen quickly in an air fryer.
Tracey
Oh my goodness, I had never heard of a Chaffle before beginning Keto…what an amazing, & scrumptious bundle of yumminess!!
I made the Cinnamon recipe & it turned out perfectly! I didn’t read the nutrition stats until after I had devoured the entire recipe all by myself thinking it was ‘a’ serving… ♀️ but no regrets, I enjoyed every.single.bite…with coconut whipped cream on top!!
Thanks for this awesome recipe…definitely a repeat!
Kasi Taylor
I made the cinnamon churro chaffles for my 10 year old and me in my Belgian waffle maker. Soooo delicious! I got really full. I will definitely make these again. Thank you
Lisa Deshaies
I would like to know how to substitute all forms of flour. I cannot tolerate any, what can I use in place of flour?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Lisa, This recipe will still work without using the almond flour or psyllium husk, but they will be less bread-like. The post above explains why we added these for an improved texture.
Tammy
Oh my gosh! I got my Dash and psyllium husks yesterday.
Chaffles are a keto life changer for me! They opened a world of possibilities for me. Thank you so much for this.
Laureen C Viets
I very much appreciate all the chaffle tips and advice; am expecting a cast iron Stuffed Waffle iron for my induction cooktop any day now. It makes 5″ stuffable waffles that I’m hoping I can adapt to chaffle recipes. The seller says that chaffle batters are typically too thin to be contained by this model (the cast aluminum version, though, works well). I think my chaffle batters may be made thicker with the addition of psyllium powders and almond flour, as you so grandly suggested. Might be a deal-maker. So THANKS. 10 stars for the advice!
Fran
My Dash arrived today and I’m getting ready to make my first batch, and I thought I saw somewhere to spray the waffle iron with non-stick spray, but now I don’t see that. Spray or no spray? Thanks so much…I love your recipes and am thinking this will be no exception!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Fran, A light spray of non-stick will help with the removal of your cooked chaffles. Enjoy!
Katie
Just made the churro chaffles and they were incredibly good!! Can’t wait to try the rest!!!
Michelle
Do one recipe makes 2 so I need to double the calories shown ex 182 =384 for a sandwich. ??? Ty lots of calories
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Michelle, Yes, you will need to double the nutrition if you eat two. Enjoy!
Christine Marshall
Absolutely love this basic chaffle recipe. Can’t wait to try the others.
Michelle corkhill
So easy and tasty. Absolute game changer.
Mindy
What a great option for new ways to eat a burger or sandwich! My daughter moved and forgot her Dash mini waffle maker! I lucked out!! Thanks for your tips!
Sue Pater
We made the jalapeno popper ones and OMG they were GREAT!! We’re anxious to try the other versions!! So easy and delicious!! Going to make my speghetti sauce to have with the garlic “bread”chaffles!! Thank YOU!!
Vicke Birney
These are great! Love them, and it is my favorite hamburger bun!
Darla
Chaffles are super easy and amazing. I make a double/ triple batch. Keep them in the fridge. Pop them in the toaster and enjoy. I always food prep on Sunday for the week ahead, and chaffles are my go to breakfast.
Kim
I make a bunch of the basic at one time and freeze. I’m low on time this go round. Can I do a loaf of just cheese & egg mixture without almond flour? Or if needed I do have coconut flour. I may try for the hell of it and see what happens, but thought I’d ask.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kim, The recipe will work with just cheese and egg, but they will have a different final texture. The chaffles are sturdier with almond flour.
Mickie
These are delicious!!!! I did the cinnamon waffles and used sugar free syrup on top, but I also want to try fresh raspberries, etc. Really satisfied the craving for waffles and or something sweet on Keto. I will be trying all of these! Thanks for the amazing recipe, I will be using this a lot!!
Renee
Come on!!! These are to die for!! I have made all but the jalapeño chaffle. Can’t seem to decide which is my favourite between the cinnamon churro and the pumpkin. Not going to lie, I’ve actually had them for breakfast also. This is the first recipe that I have tried from Wholesome Yum and have since bought recipe book. Does not disappoint!!!
Sharon
These basic Chaffles are my go to! Have tried many but for my bread fix, the basic recipe with various seasoning are The best! I love the texture produced by using the psyllium husk fiber. Thanks for this post!!
Dorcas Walters
I’m new to keto but have been gluten free for a while and these were my first chaffles – they are SO scrumptious! I made cinnamon ones and don’t nor like the taste of stevia or erythritol but it isn’t strong and I felt like I was eating proper carb laden waffles. I’m going to make loads to put in the freezer.
Sam
Have you ever tried making chaffles using Ricotta cheese? I just wondered if you or anyone reading this has… that way I don’t have to experiment!
Thx!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Sam, I have not experimented with ricotta in chaffles, but I think small amounts should work well in the recipes.
Judy Roach
Do you use the 2T almond flour in the Garlic Parmesean chaffle? As written, it looks like no flour.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Judy, That is correct. The garlic parmesan chaffle doesn’t include any flour.
Pye
I’ve been throwing in a tsp of cinnamon for each batch and they smell soooo good in the morning when I pop them in the toaster straight from the freezer! Butter while hot, and eat with sugar free syrup! I now make 6X recipe and they last me more than two weeks. Yum!
Kimberly M Tomich
Would oat fiber work instead of psyllium husk powder? I don’t have psyllium husk powder on hand.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kimberly, I have not tested this recipe with oat fiber, so I don’t know if you will get the same texture that you would from psyllium. Please let us know how it turns out if you decide to give it a try!
Donna
I have made the basic chaffles using almond flour and coconut flour. Prefer the coconut flour. The almond flour version tastes gritty to me. They’re great to use for making sandwiches. This was a great find!
Angela
I so appreciate how easy it is to find the recipe and follow the recipe on your blog. I made the pumpkin and original Chaffee (ate all the original) today and put some of the pumpkin in the fridge for a snack later on. Wonderful! Going to make these tomorrow and I can’t wait. Thank you!
Zul AV
Thank you very much. My eleven-year-old daughter and I had a lot of fun cooking original and garlic cheese chaffles. I wanted to freeze some … but all of them are gone!!

Yummy! I made the basic recipe. Came out as advertised, actually fluffier than I anticipated with the density of the dough.
Dawn
First of all THANK YOU for this site. Chaffles are delicious! I have been making the plain ones and putting a smear of strawberry cream cheese on top. It satisfies my sweet craving without cheating!
Dominic Hodges
I made some cinnamon chaffles tonight and ate them before logging them. Big mistake! 13g net carbs! Not happy.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Dominic, None of these chaffles have 13 grams net carbs. The nutrition info for each version is listed in the post above. The cinnamon chaffles have 2g net carbs each. Even if you made the whole batch, it would not be 2g net carbs. Double check if your calculator is not subtracting sugar alcohols or fiber, this would result in an inflated net carb count.
Dominic Hodges
On April 26 you said using all the batter for one waffle was 6g carbs. I think you need to check and update the nutrition information. Vanilla extract is about 70% carbs and 30g of almond meal is 6.5g.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Dominic, Your almond flour carb count seems very high. 2 tbsp of almond flour (not almond meal) should be around 2 net carbs, if you’re using the almond flour I recommend. Also, the amount of vanilla extract (no sugar) used should equate .25 g carbs.
The carbs in the batter will vary depending on which flavor you make. The carb count per chaffle is listed in the post above for each flavor separately. The information comes from the USDA Food Database is reliable, if using the same ingredients and brands that I used. I can’t guarantee the same for every brand, just what I use.
I hope this helps.
Luke
Love these!! Definitely going to be a game changer with our keto diet!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Katie Knop
I made the churro chaffles and they were absolutely delicious! I used a mozzarella provolone shred blend, because it’s what I had, and it worked out really well. Can’t wait to make these again!
Alicia
Made the churro chaffles. They were delicious. Can’t wait to try the other ones.
Deborah
Tried the cinnamon ones today absolutely delicious. Hard to eat only one. Definitely will be making again.
Carri
I got my waffle iron in the mail today and made my first chaffle. I made the cinnamon Churro version. They were CRISPY! Loved the texture. They were firm. But my only complaint was using cheese. Even with the sweetener, I could taste the salt from the cheese. And I really hate using my cheese up in a waffle Can I use cream cheese instead?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Carri, Shredded cheese really is the heart of this recipe. Cream cheese won’t give you the same texture.
Linda
For those who don’t like the salty taste of some cheeses, I sub ricotta. I usually use coconut flour and cook them in a Dash.
Andrew
Made the basic chaffle and it came out nice a crispy like a real Belgian waffle. Then did the churro and it was soft and mushy. Still tasted good.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Andrew, Glad to hear you enjoyed them! These waffles take a few minutes to set up and harden because they are mostly cheese.
Amanda Stugart
Hello, I am curious if I can substitute Xanthan Gum for Psyllium Powder? I cannot find any psyllium powder anywhere right now. Thanks so much.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Amanda, I’m sorry, that won’t work in this recipe.
Tamera
Psyllium powder is nothing but Metamucil and can be found in the laxative isle. You don’t use that much to give you diarrhea but adds fiber
Sam
Walmart sells plain psyllium powder in the laxative aisle.
Paul
Just to warn you, look at the label. I used to buy it at walmart, last time I went, they had started adding sugar to the plain psyllium husk.
Steve
So just made 2 versions of the basic, one with a 1/4 cup of maple syrup added (wife was craving a mcgriddle and she’s not doing keto) with bacon, egg and cheese and she loved it. If you’re doing keto, I’m sure a zero carb syrup would work just as well. Second version I added some everything bagel seasoning into the batter and spread with cream cheese after it cooked, it was sooo good and great for that bagel craving/fix, lol.
Debra
They were great!!
Donna
Amazing! And so easy!!
Bev Johnstone
We just had the cinnamon churro chaffles and they are SO good!! The texture and taste were amazing. Crispy ouside and chewy inside. Didn’t even taste low carb at all. We felt like we were cheating on our Keto diet! My husband loved them.
Lori
Hi, I am making the Cinnamon Churro chaffle using a 7 inch round belgium waffle maker. How many net carbs for the entire 7 inch size?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Lori, If you are using the whole amount of batter for one waffle, then the net carbs are 6g per full-sized waffle.
Alison
Tried the basic great now about to give the pumpkin one a go. Yum.
Kristi
I saw this recipe and I wanted to make it, but I don’t have mozzarella cheese. Is there any other cheese that I can use? Thanks so much!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kristi, Mild cheddar also works great for this recipe!
Veneise
I tried the cinnamon churro recipe and was very happy with the flavour. I think next time I will omit the topping (a little too much for me). I found the texture to be a little tough but I am not sure if I cooked them too long or if I let them cool to long (troubleshooting tips welcome). Overall very happy with the recipe and will try some of the other flavors. Thanks Maya for the hard work and time you put into each of your recipes.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Veneise, If they were tough, they may have cooked your chaffle a little too long. If you like them softer, be sure to remove it before it gets too dark on the exterior.
Jessica
Wondering about non-nut flour – my son is allergic to peanuts, treenuts, and coconuts. Have you tried anything else? Thanks
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Jessica, You can try sesame seed flour or sunflower seed meal for these.
J.A. Wilde
I would like the EVERYTHING BAGEL recipe chaffel. Thank you so much.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi J.A. Wilde, You can add ‘Everything Bagel’ seasoning to the top of the basic chaffle recipe!
Virginia Ann Greuling
I made the Churro recipe with coconut flour. I use Monk fruit sweetener, a little more cinnamon, and no Churro topping. Topped with full fat cream cheese. It was so Good. I made six Chaffles with My new Dash waffle machine. So each of Us had three. I will make this often for My Keto diet.
Thank you, Virginia
Coo
LOVE THESE! Modified the plain added lemon juice and poppy seeds, ate with lemon butter cream frosting!
FYI just made the garlic Parmesan but I added 2 T almond flour, was that supposed to be in recipe?
THANK FOR ALL YOUR CREATIVE DELICIOUS RECIPES! Reversing Type II Diabetes, my Virta coach recommended these! KETO WORKING!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Coo, The Garlic Parm chaffles do not need any additional flour, but I’m sure they were still delicious! Love the lemon poppy seed combo!
Jennifer
I followed the recipe for the churro chaffles, waited for the steam to stop coming out of the sides and when I opened th ewaffle maker it split apart into two parts stuck to the top and bottom of the waffle maker. I sprayed with canola oil spray – the waffle maker is supposed to have a nonstick surface. It’s a normal size waffle maker, I used 1/2 cup batter. Could it be that I used too much?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Jennifer, If you are using a normal-sized waffle maker, then it may take longer for the waffle to cook through. The lid should release easily when it is ready.
Momma Bags
Today I made the Churro chaffle!!! I didn’t add the psyllium and it was a great texture. For the topping, I just let some grass fed butter melt on top after cooking and lightly dusted with cinnamon and a tiny sprinkle of stevia… perfection! I used maybe a 1/8 tsp of Lakanto Maple Flavored Syrup and a dollop of Reddi Whip. This is one of the BEST keto recipes I’ve tried so far! And it definitely fixed my waffle craving.
Donna Weible
Made the basic recipe for breakfast this morning … these are “let go of my Eggo” delicious!! A little butter and sugar free syrup and we were good to go! Since recently being diagnosed with diabetes, I have turned to keto recipes so I don’t feel like I’m missing out. Yours did not disappoint! I’m eager to try the other versions.
May
I have a ground flax on hand. Think that would be ok to use instead on psyllium husk?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi May, I think that would work. The psyllium husk is optional, so you could always leave it out and still have great chaffles.
Barb J
I have used chia seeds in place of the psyllium husk and worked great
Ingrid Ruiz
I’ve made the Basic Chaffles and the Garlic Parmesan many times with great success. The garlic parm ones are so good they stopped my husband from eating bread! However I can’t get the Cinnamon ones (or the Basic recipe made sweet with some erythritol) to come out crispy. I’ve tried different sweetners as well – stevia, stevia glycerite, and the erythiritol, and they turn out really floppy. But the Basic recipe with no sweetner is crispy and the garlic parms are super crispy. I have 2 waffle irons – a deep Belgian waffler and then a large round shallow one. Same result in either appliance. Any ideas how I can get a crispy sweet chaffle? I”m dying for a breakfast chaffle with some “maple” syrup! Thanks! I make SO many of your recipes and they are always perfect, so this is odd, and I know it has to do with the sweetner, since I’ve experimented.
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Ingrid, I’m so glad you like the chaffles! I find that they (all versions) get more crispy in a mini waffle maker since it has smaller “ridges” and more surface area as a result. Shredded cheese gets chaffles more crispy than cream cheese, so that contributes, but it’s also salty which is why I mix with both for the sweet versions. But, my cinnamon chaffles do get crispy as well – I just have to keep them in the waffle maker a bit longer and let them cool to crisp up more. Also, after they cool you can pop them in the toaster to crisp up if you don’t mind the extra time/effort. Hope this helps!
Josie C.
Love this! I followed the directions but omitted the bacon bits for the jalapeno popper chaffles- still delicious with a smear of cream cheese on top!
Rachel Romero
OMGosh!! I tried all except the pumpkin. They are THE BEST!!!!! Thank you SOOO much for this recipe
Kendra
Oh my gosh!!!!!!! THIS CANNOT BE KETO!!!! This cinnamon sugar Chaffle!!! AMMMMMMMMAAAAZZZIIIINNNNGGGGGG! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. I cannot wait to make the others. Thank you so much. It is delicious.
Gayle
My first chaffle – tried the churro chaffle because I felt like a little sweet something. This was super delicious, instructions were perfecty as well as recipe. Will be trying the other chaffle recipes later today!! Thank you so much Maya! I just bought your book last week at Barnes and Noble because I have tried so many of your recipes from online and they are all so delicious! Have yet to try a bad one and don’t think there is such a thing! Thank you for making my low carb life so much easier and pleasurable!
Cheryl Fuller
Was not a believer, BUT NOW I AM. Doing low carb thing, tried the basic recipe. Unbelievable. Fantastic. Delicious. Need I say more. Did EXACTLY as recipe said. Omg.
Deb
Pumpkin chaffle separated. Half stuck to top of Belgium waffle maker, half stuck to bottom. The flavor is great, please help.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Deb, Did the you wait for the steam to dissipate before attempting to open the waffle iron? That’s the best way to tell if you’ve let it cook long enough.
Danielle Fields
Can you add the psyllium husk powder to any of the other chaffels for texture?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Danielle, I have not tested this, but the recipes should still work when using a very small amount of psyllium. I suggest starting with 1/4 tsp and see if you notice any favorable improvement in texture. Best of luck!
Maria Quinn
Can you substitute Xantham Gum for Psylilium husk?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Maria, Sorry, that will not work in this recipe.
Nancy Romain
I just made the original with egg whites and I love them. No eggy taste. I only had psyllium husks instead of powdered. They turned out yummy. Thanks for the recipe.
Robin L
Ok this was my first foray into chaffles and it was a winner for me! Made original. Not sure I will use as bread but I had some cinnamon monkfruit dust left over from another recipe. melted a smidge of butter on top and then sprinkled the cinnamon topping. Yummy!
Jill Lang
Thanks! I hope you’ll more variations of this recipe. I love them.
Kim
I made some churro chaffles and they did not come out right did you forget to mention cream cheese or is cream cheese not supposed to be in the ingredients just need verification
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kim, The cinnamon churro chaffles do not need the cream cheese.
Rosemary
What can you use if you are dairy free please?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Rosemary, Other readers have reported success with the shredded dairy free cheeses.
Pam
Thank YOU for sharing the versatility of the basic Chaffee concept! Talk about quick, easy, freezable & re-heating menu idea! We have tried with Low fat Mozzarella & almond meal but prefer using combo of shredded Mexican cheese. The possibilities are endless.
Heather
Can I make the basic with 1/4 cup of cheese? I do ww so 1/4 cup is lower in points.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Heather, I have not tested this and cannot guarantee the results, but I think the recipe should still work. I would highly encourage you to use the baking powder if you are cutting out that much cheese. You chaffle may be more fragile, and there is a possibility you can only get one out of the recipe. Best of luck!
Laurie. Ecker
Purchased a Dash waffle maker last week. Used it first time this morning to make snickerdoodle chaffles!! OMG! my new favorite breakfast, lunch, snack. Can’t wait to try all the recipes!
Lynette
My top of my dash kept popping up as they cooked. This normal? They are absolutely delish though. First time even trying a chaffle recipe! You never disappoint me!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Lynette, There isn’t any locking mechanism on those tiny waffle makers, so the lid lifts slightly and closes as the chaffle cooks. If it’s spilling over, then use a little less batter in the iron.
Christopher gibbs
What is the shelf life? Thinking about making them for the week. Do they freeze well?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Christopher, Chaffles will keep well in the fridge for about a week. They also freeze nicely, so that is another great option if you are making severa at a time.
Lisa McCarthy
Love these recipes
Christina P
My first and favorite the churro chaffle. Success…yum. Had previously failed using other revenues , but this one was perfect.
Nicole Dawson
These are all so fun sounding and I just love how you changed 1 recipe just a little bit and made a completely different chaffle. Can’t wait to try a few of these combos.
Marilyn
So you said that the sweet chaffles use cream cheese, the there was none listed for the cinnamon-sugar chaffles. How much cream cheese should be added?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Marilyn, Thanks for pointing that out in the post! The Cinnamon Churro Chaffle is yummy as written in the recipe card. Enjoy!
Kimberley Hamm
YES, YES, YES!!! Thank you so much. I have hashimotos and Just found out I have crohn’s disease as well. I have been struggling so much with cutting out things I love. I think to myself “I’m not going to let this disease dictate what I eat” well I spent all day yesterday in the ER after I had pizza and cake for my birthday. My daughter found this recipe for me today and I used the classic and added everything but bagel on top before I closed the lid, then made a bacon burger. OhMYlanta…..you have saved me from despair, it was everything I needed and reminded me of the the burgers I get at The Waffle Experience here in Sacramento. I will try chicken and chaffles tomorrow. Thank you for your time in testing these recipes to perfection
VALINDA KNIGHTEN
This sounds so gooood! I can’t wait to try both of the sweet ones!
Shari Stratton
These look delicious…can’t wait to try them!
Lori Sherman-Appel
I LOVE reading ur posts! I have a question that I didn’t see mentioned. I am making all my low carb foods for just me. If I made my batter with just shredded cheese and 1egg, would this suffice? How much cheese should I use? Thanks.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Lori, These chaffles do great in the fridge and can reheat in the toaster oven, microwave, or oven. It is difficult to half this recipe because it would be using half an egg. I suggest you batch cook these chaffles and store in the fridge to use as you need.
Charlene
Hi, Would either flaxseed meal or ground hemp hearts be a substitute for the psyllium husk powder?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Charlene, Flaxseed meal will work, but hemp hearts will not.
Mysha Patray
These are so perfect and delish.. Thank you so much for sharing, I’ve tried the jalapeno popper & garlic parm so far cant wait to try the others.. pumpkin is next!!
MT
I made the easiest one in my waffle iron, but it stuck to both the top & bottom: what did I do wrong? Should I bring the iron w oil before making them, even though it’s Teflon coated? Thx. MT
Wholesome Yum M
Hi MT, Yes, you should coat in butter or oil before adding the mixture. Also, it’s possible that they weren’t cooked though before you tried or open the waffle iron. Be sure to let them go long enough for the steam to stop coming from the sides of the iron before attempting to open.
Nancy
Thank you for your awesome chaffle recipes! I’ve already tried the basic and garlic chaffles with great success using my Dash mini waffle maker. And then me being me, I started thinking about Teflon on products from China. Even though it’s not mentioned anywhere on site, I’m sure the little Dash’s non stick coating is made from Teflon 🙁 It’s too bad no one makes a mini waffle maker that has ceramic or titanium coating, as the mini size is just so perfect for cahffles. My search continues….
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Nancy, The Dash mini does have a (probably Teflon based) non-stick coating, but it is PFOA free, which is healthier than a traditional teflon coating. I have not seen a ceramic coated mini waffle maker yet.
Linda
these are sooo good. I made the garlic one….my Waring waffle iron takes two eggs….I used an Italian seasoning mix that had garlick and Italian spices….I only had cheddar cheese but it worked out great…..can’t wait to try other ones….I am thinking chopped ham and cheese and maybe some chopped spinach….
kat
I have a standard belgium waffle maker. (Black & Decker model #:WMB500) With a waffle maker that size, would you double the ingredients to form a full waffle?
Thanks.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kat, These waffle recipes make 2-3 mini waffles, so they should roughly equal one regular sized waffle. Grease your waffle iron well and remember that they will need to cook longer in the larger iron, so be patient with it.
Lynn
First, your site is my go to site for just about anything keto! And your cookbook is amazing too! I want to make the basic chaffle but I only have psyllium seed powder and not psyllium husk powder. Can I substitute the seed powder for the husk powder?
Thanks
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Lyn, As long as it’s actually in a powder form, then it should work fine.
Diane
Is your erythritol granular or powdered, for the churro Chaffle? I cant wait to try all of these!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Diane, Granular erythritol was used in these chaffles. You can always sub with the powdered if that’s what you have on hand.
MoJo
Made my 1st one today. I made the garlic parmesan chaffle. Soo good!!! I fell in love instantly. My boyfriend decided to make his own so he did the jalepeno popper chaffle. He liked it more than an omelette because of the crispyness of the cheese, which an omelette doesn’t have! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ x 2!!!
Diana
Made the cinnamon dolce and it was SO GOOD!! I will definitely be making this again and again, side note I added a tiny amount of the vanilla caramel skinny syrup for a little extra flavor
Stephanie
Are these storable? How well do they keep? Thank you!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Stephanie, These chaffles do great in both the fridge or the freezer! They will keep for up to a week in the fridge and up to 3 months in the freezer (properly wrapped).
Donna
I made this soup today and it was SO GOOD! I used the immersion blender to break up about half of the broccoli. Only one thing though…I only got just over 6 cups rather than the 8 the recipe says it makes. Make this soup today…you won’t regret it!
Stephanie
I make my chaffles using 1/2 cup of fine shredded cheddar cheese, 1 egg and 2tbsp of almond flour makes for 2 perfect waffles on the mini dash…. I top it off with pb and bacon… (obsessed with this combo as weird as it sounds)
Nicole
So…this my second recipe i’ve tried and I have to say you make eating Keto fun & exciting. Today I tried the original chaffle for my bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich. They were fabulous! You mentioned that you could make these ahead and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. What’s the best way to increase the batches (say to make 6 for 3 meals during the week)? For the churro ones, do you decrease the sweetener if you make a bigger batch? Can’t wait to get your cookbook!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Nicole, You can multiply the recipe as needed and it will still come out fine. So if you wanted 6 churro waffles, you would double the recipe in its entirety.
Kim Boles
Have you ever made the batter, then made them as needed?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Kim, I haven’t tried this, so I’m not sure how they would turn out. I suspect the batter would dry out in the fridge. Please let us know how the turn out if you decide to try it.
Linda Blake
Game changer! Made a wonderful pizza, thank you!
Amy J.
My hubby and I tried the “basic “ chaffle recipe today after trying another bloggers’s chaffle recipe the other night & being somewhat disappointed. These were AMAZEBALLS. Crispy, light, not eggy – they taste like “real waffles.” We are so excited to find a good bread substitute we can use for sandwiches or burgers – tonight, we used these to make keto “McGriddles” – with spicy sausage patties and scrambled eggs and cheese in between two of the chaffles. I’m going to play around with the basic recipe to see how we can add a maple flavor to the chaffles that will still keep them keto-friendly. Thanks so much for the recipe – keep up the good work!
Joelle
I made the garlic parmesan ones today. Your printable recipe didn’t say to add almond flour, but all the others did, so I included 2T, just in case. They were really good, so I feel that it was just a mistake, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks for providing these recipes. I got a mini waffle maker for Christmas, and I’m so excited to try these out!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Joelle, The Garlic Parmesan Chaffles did not need almond flour, but I’m sure it didn’t hurt the recipe any. Glad you enjoyed them!
Sue
Awesome! Made per recipe except out of psyllium husk so used a little inulin powder and wow! Used original recipe for open faced egg sandwich and entire family loved them saying light and fluffy and not soggy! Bought the little waffle maker from the link and will be purchasing more for gifts to make your own healthy eggos!
Amy
The Cinnamon Churro Chaffle was AWESOME! Wish I could post the photo!
Melissa Kordsmeier
I’m very confused on how you’re getting your carb count. The mozzarella cheese alone makes it way higher than 2 net carbs… and then you add in the almond flour.. Can you please explain this?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Melissa, Each recipe makes 2-3 chaffles, but the serving size is 1 chaffle. The macros listed are for a single serving (1 chaffle).
Pamela Fisher
Maya, I made the Cinnamon & Sugar/Churro Chaffles! They were delicious!
You may have mentioned it in the recipe, but what oil do you recommend to spray onto the waffle maker? Any hints for those of us that don’t have a mini waffle maker, but a regular size?
Now I can’t wait to try one of the savory Chaffles.
Thanks!
P.S. Love your new cookbook and your website. Also love the continously playing video showing how to make different recipes. That really helps.
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Pamela, You can grease your waffle iron with melted butter, or spray avocado or coconut oil. If you have a full size waffle maker, cook times will take a bit longer. Watch for the steam to stop as an indicator to check for doneness.
D
Hi there! For some reason I don’t see any recipes on this page. I’m using a Galaxy S10 and have tried all my browsers. I don’t see any recipes on the page itself nor are any of the titles of the recipes or pictures hyperlinks. I am not sure if that is for all recipes on the site or just this one. I just wanted you to be aware in case this is an issue for other users, I’m super bummed I can’t read the recipe but I’m sure it’s amazing! Please feel free to delete this post too!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi there, Thank you so much for reaching out! The recipes are at the bottom of the post, or you can just use the “jump to recipe” button at the top to go right to it. Make sure you have your browser “reader mode” off to see the full ingredient amounts.
Margaret Schindel
Hi Maya! What is the topping (looks like either whipped cream or cream cheese frosting) on the pumpkin chaffles in your photo? Thanks very much!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Margaret, It’s whipped cream and cinnamon. Yum!
Carolyn Olson
I tried the Churro recipe first and loved it. So I decided to make one with 1/2 teaspoon maple extract along with the vanilla extract and about a third of a cup of small chopped pecans. They are delicious! And then I thought maybe adding one tablespoon of cocoa to the churro recipe and a fourth of a teaspoon of orange extract. Those were also delicious and I can’t wait to try them with the keto cheesecake topping.
Delisa Jackson
I made chaffles this morning for thec1st time. I used your basic recipe with a pinch of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla & cinnamon. They were so delicious. Used my little mini dash that I’ve had for a month or longer 1st time. I’ve been missking out. This just raised my keto lifestyle another level. By the way, I’m down 25 lbs in 4 months. Not fast, but steady. Thank you….
Shirley
You are my go-to for keto recipes. I love all of the cooking tips too. I do have an issue when printing recipes sometimes however. Some of the ads On the recipe articles such The Best Chaffles Recipe – 5Ways! Do not seem to be deleted. I printed 2 copies of this recipe and the pop up ad banner saying “Get tough on Cold & Flu…” printed both times even though I closed the banner on both the article page and the copy page. The banner covered different areas of the print outs so I was able to get a complete ingredient list. I don’t know what I did wrong. Do you have suggestions?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Shirley, Use the Print button on the recipe card to get the printer friendly version. The ads won’t print from there. I’m so glad you like the recipes!
Barbara
Why do my chaffles flatten out as soon as I take them off the dash waffle maker?
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Barbara, They will flatten a little bit as they cool, but should not totally deflate or lose their shape. If this is the case, then I would double check that you baking powder isn’t expired.
Pat
I’ve been making them for awhile, I usually use 1T almond flour, 1T mayo or butter, 1 egg & about 1/3 c of shredded mozzarella cheese. Sometimes I add sweetner & blueberries, sometimes it’s bread for my sandwich – I love them any & every way … I need to try some of your suggestions. Love your recipes & use some a lot. Thanks for posting!
Gina
Just tried the “basic” chaffle recipe this morning. YUMMY! I am confused on the nutrition listed. The recipe makes 2 chaffles, but the nutrition counts are for just one of the 2 chaffles, correct? So if you eat both chaffles, it would be 4grms net carbs? I was absolutely blown away that these tasted so much like regular waffles. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! You’re awesome!
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Gina, That is correct, both chaffles would be 4g of carbs.
Valailuk
I just made churros and this recipe is my number one goes to. The taste is right, the texture is right! I love them!
I used Swerve as my sugar alternative for the churros as well as the topping, my only comment is how to make the topping not cold, you know how erythrital has cold taste. I tried different kind of sugar alternative but have no luck on it. If you know how, please let me know.
Laura Reagan
I always add one drop of liquid stevia to take the cooling effect off of Swerve.
Lori B.
AFAIK, the cooling sensation of erythritol is due to its chemistry & can’t be masked if it’s used as a topping. Cinnamon sugar is the only situation in which I always turn to splenda for perfect flavor & mouthfeel.
Anna
I just made the churro ones and am blown away! This recipe is staying in the regular rotation. Thanks so much, I love your website.
Debbie
Could you substitute xanthum gum in place of pysillium fiber? If so how much?
Ty
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Debbie, Those ingredients are not interchangeable.
Lynn
What consistency should the batter be? Even with a large egg, mine was very thick!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Lynn, Yes, it should be thick. I have pictures of the batter and a video above.
Karin
Tried the jalapeno poppers – delish! Though I doubled the jalapenos (not fresh, but in a jar) and used 1/4 tsp of psyllium husk just becasue. I made one of the 3 with the extra cheese on the grill to make it crispy and it was a huge improvement. Used two to make a sandwich with one leftover pork sausage (sliced in 3 lengthwise), and ate the 3rd extra crispy one alone because I couldn’t resist.
Mamaloobongo
Maya,
Although there are more steps and ingredients involved in the recipe, it is worth it for a waffle that really has the taste and texture of the waffle. For most of thus, the other ingredients (almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder) are pantry staples and we already have on hand – just a matter of adding it to the mixing bowl.
I had been wanting to find out what the whole ‘chaffle’ craze was about. I have so far made the basic chaffle, cinnamon chaffle and pumpkin chaffle. Surprisingly, the basic chaffle was my favorite. Overall, these are a nice addition to the breakfast/lunch/snack options for a keto lifestyle.
Thank you for experimenting and improving the original egg/cheese chaffle!
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Thank you!! The original is my favorite too, if I had to choose. 🙂
Bruce Kahl
Churro and pumpkin were great
Pamela
The Cinnamon Chaffee were delicious! Is the nutrition onto for 1 mini Chaffel or 2.
Ie: the churro chaffel decipe is for 3 mini chaffles so do I just Times the calories for 1 serving mini chaffel x 3? (208×3=624). Is this correct?
Thanks
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Pamela, The nutrition is listed for 1 chaffel. If you ate all three, then yes you will multiply the nutrition facts by 3.
Marcie
We made the garlic tonight with pulled pork. Thank you!
Kendyl
I just tried the basic chaffle recipe and OMG. The texture is a vast improvement from the egg and cheese only version I had tried before. This is a definite keeper!! Trying the pumpkin ones next!
Jade
We love Both the sweet and savory versions of the Chaffles. They are our new favorites.
Donna
Awesome! I made the original (no baking powder or psyllium husk) and mixed in approx 1 tsp of everything bagel toping. So good!
Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe. Will be my go to breakfast!
Renee
I tried the Jalapeno Popper version and it was fantastic. Once I got the batter mixed up, I didn’t think I’d have enough so I doubled it. After cooking all the batter, I realized that increasing the amount was not necessary for just two people. It seemed to expand in the waffle iron. Can’t wait to try the other versions.

Wow, never heard chaffles before. Thank you for clarifying it. These looks great for breakfast or afterschool snack.
Colleen Morgan
Hey there! SOOO EXCITED TO TRY THESE! So…you don’t need almond flour or psyllium husk powder for the Garlic Parmesan Chaffles?
Maya | Wholesome Yum
Hi Colleen, Nope, you don’t need them for that version!
Swathi
I am yet to try Keto Chaffles, I am going to give this one a try as I love Jalapenos cheese chaffles.
Donna
Ha I kept hearing about chaffles but I had no idea what anyone was talking about. These were great, so easy, and I loved all the flavour combinations (althouth the jalapeno poppers holds a special place in my heart)
Sherree Taylor
Thanks so much for the variety. Although I haven’t made them yet I have no doubt at all that they will be good have read other comments and they have been very favourable. Appreciate the help very much.
Echo
These keto chaffles are to die for! I tried the pumpkin chaffles and they were amazing! I’ll have to try the other versions soon!
Renee
I tried the Spicy Jalapeno Popper version. Concerned that it wouldn’t stick together well enough, I added a little coconut flour. I also ended up doubling the recipe because it didn’t look like enough. It was enough and I probably didn’t need the coconut flour. Either way, it turned out great. Served with homemade chili. This was a great option as I am diabetic and my husband is allergic to gluten.

I tried the basic, jalapeno popper, and the cinnamon churro chaffles and WOW! I love them! I can’t wait to try the other ones. I did notice that although they are low in carbs, they are not low in calories.
Will be using them for sandwiches and hamburger buns. Thanks for such good recipes and detailed instructions and tips.

WOW – 5 different ways to make these minis! Love having both the sweet and savory variations!! Using the original recipe really has unlimited options!
Shane Lanford
Simply amazing. Only took a couple of minutes to throw together. I didn’t have any psyllium husk powder and they were still crispy tasted great with butter and sugar free syrup.
Cheryl Malik
Totally making these soon! What a great idea!
Megan Stevens
I’ve been making these for a couple of years but never knew they were a thing with a name until a few weeks ago when my Pinterest feed was suddenly full of them. So funny. Yes, they’re amazing! I love the fat and protein in the guise of carbs, so yummy! All of your varieties and photos look great!
Dollye Morgan
I would love to have a keto recipe for chicken tikka masala. However my daughter is allergic to coconut, so what can I do to replace the coconut and still give it that flavor and texture that it needs?
Wholesome Yum A
Hi Dollye, you could probably replace it with heavy cream or sour cream. Good luck!
JD
These were incredible – especially the comment about Making them crispy. I’ve tried other recipes in the past and they were a little bit eggy and soggy. Not these – I made the basic and the cinnamon. Only challenge is not eating them all at once – I over-chaffled when I ate these for breakfast.
Jane
Would oat fiber work in place of the psyllium husk powder?
Wholesome Yum A
Hi Jane, I haven’t worked with oat fiber enough to know for sure. This is a fairly forgiving recipe, though, so let me know if you try it!
Amy
These are unbelievably delicious! I had different ingredients on hand – feta, blue cheese, only a little shredded mozzarella, and I did the oregano and garlic. I didn’t measure anything, I just made sure lots of cheese and not so much egg, with a thicker but still pancake batter consistency. Wow! My husband was so impressed he took pictures and showed his friends which is very out of character for him (he’s a contractor)! The aroma permeated the house and brought him in from working outside! Thank you, Maya! Some new zest in our lives from an almost grain free lifestyle (no wheat and little of everything else). I will try some of your other recipes as well!
Ashley
Can you substitute stevia for the erythritol? I’m a beginner at sugar substitutes and I’m not sure how different they are. Can’t wait to try!
Wholesome Yum A
Hi Ashley, I normally wouldn’t recommend that but chaffles are fairly forgiving. However, you’d need to use a lot less. Check my sweetener guide for more info.
Bea
Sorry, I’m not familiar with “mini waffles”. The recipe makes 2 mini waffles, but would that be enough to make one regular waffle (from the kind of waffle maker with the 4 quarters)?
Thank you for your hard work, your recipes Never Fail me, which is wonderful. Have pre-ordered your cookbook because of this.
Wholesome Yum A
So grateful for your support, Bea! This recipe doesn’t quite yield a full waffle in a regular waffle maker — it fills closer to 3/4 of the way.
Jill arnold
I used my four place waffle maker for these. Each square is equivalent to a “mini”. So you should get two squares from the basic recipe.
Maegha
This is great, Maya, thank you! For the churro chaffle, the 1/2 tbsp of butter is just for topping the chaffle with the cinnamon sugar mix? Or is it for putting in the batter and then you are to reserve some for the topping?
Wholesome Yum A
Hi Maegha, you’ll use 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter altogether. 1/2 tablespoon goes in the batter itself, and the remaining full tablespoon gets brushed on the finished waffle before sprinkling with the topping.
paleoglutenfreeguy
Whoa. This is such an awesome resource! I can’t believe how much info you packed into one post. Thank you, thank you, for answering so many of my questions and all the recipe ideas.
Crystal Anderson
I don’t see the recipe…..
Wholesome Yum M
Hi Crystal, You may need to turn off your browser’s ‘Reader Mode’ to be able to view the recipe.
Cynthia Schuder
I wonder if you could make personal pizzas with these. The garlic parmesan chaffles would be the one to use!
Wholesome Yum A
That would be DELICIOUS, Cynthia! You could easily bake or broil until the toppings heat up and the cheese melts.
Mamaloobongo
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!
Raia Todd
What a fun recipe! Love all the variations. 🙂
ChihYu
Love a good chaffle and love it even more that there are 5 ways to prepare them!
